Monday morning, Dan Abrams launched Mogulite, the seventh blog in the portfolio of niche content sites that make up Abrams Media.

Building off the success of Abrams’s leading site Mediaite, which publishes stories about big-wig media personalities to an audience of 1.7 million unique viewers per month, Mogulite aims to chronicle the moves and attitudes of leaders in the tech, entertainment and finance industries, among others.

In tone, it most closely resembles The Observer; in content, Business Insider and Gawker. On Mogulite, editor Amy Terney says, one can expect to discover which luminary celebrated New Year’s Eve 2005 by singing Johnny Cash songs with Usher, and learn about the financial titan who was able to sidestep a $900 million insider-trading suit by donating $100 million to his own charitable fund — useful knowledge, it seems, to some.

Its target audience? Aspiring moguls, “those who simply like to gaze at wildly successful people from afar,” and the moguls themselves of course, says Abrams.

Like the others Abrams Media properties, Mogulite will be produced by a small staff — in this case, two editors, plus part-time consulting editor Peter Lauria — and funded by display advertising. Men’s clothing brand Bonobos is the launch sponsor, and Abrams says the site expects to have the support of a “major liquor sponsor” beginning mid-May.

Abrams Media has been in the red since its founding in 2009, but Abrams assures us that it will profitable this year.

“In January and February we were profitable but based on expenses and ad dollars we were not in March and April,” Abrams says. “We will be back in the black in May and I hope, and expect, that we will stay there,” he adds, noting that most of the company’s revenue comes from ads on its flagship site Mediate, which has a staff of six.

The startup plans to expand its events business and begin selling spots on its job boards to supplement advertising revenues.

Mogulite is not the only site Abrams plans to launch this year. “We are going to launch two or maybe three more sites this year,” Abrams says. “I have not made a final decision on what industries they will cover, but they will focus on discrete personalities within particular communities.”

I have conflicting thoughts about the effectiveness of the WP Auto Tagger plugin for WordPress. I have been using it for the better part of a year now purely because of convenience but have not seen the results that I would like to be seeing.

If you are not familiar with the WP Auto Tagger for WordPress, it is a plugin which automatically pulls keywords from your copy and enters them into your “post tags” area. This is the area that tells the search engines what your article is about.

After reviewing my blog stats the other day I saw that my traffic was increasing but the traffic from the search engines was not. Now… I will be the first to admit that I am an an SEO Guru or anything but one woudl think that this woudl increase the amount of traffic you would be getting from the search engines over time.

Not sure if I should return to the “manual” method for entering article keywords or not.

What are your thoughts?

I just discovered the secret to timely Blog posts in WordPress! Yahoo! If you are an experienced marketer maybe you are already aware of this however I have been posting to blogs for the better part of two years now and just came across this time saving feature. OK…. no more suspense…. it is the WordPress schedule post feature.

I know, I know…call me crazy for not knowing about this already but for some reason I missed it. Through all my potential embarrassment I figured I would share it with you because maybe there is one of you out there that was in the dark about the WordPress schedule feature just like me.

This isn’t a plugin, although there are several available to enhance this feature, this is just straight up edit the publish date when you are finished composing your Blog post. That’s it! Just write your post save it to publish at a later time (I am giddy like a kid about this because of the benefits).

This is great if you go through writers block from time to time and of course the flip side is those “fertile” moments when the words just keep on comin’. Know you can write a weeks worth of content and post it gradually through out the week without going through the work of copy and paste.

I feel like I just got a new bike!

I recently added a video to one of my niche market sales pages to see if I could increase the conversion rate. I had heard that video makes a big difference so I thought I’d give it a try. Does it really help? We’ll find out in a month or so as I just started the test and will report back in.

Video is so intriguing that I made it part of my marketing strategy (in most areas) so I thought it would be a natural progression to include it in my sales pages. I’ve never really cared for a sales page with all video, especially if isn’t done correctly. All written word isn’t all that compelling either for that matter, as both can be a bit stale if not done properly.

So, I decided to give video a shot on one of my sales pages just to see if I could make some improvements. I didn’t incorporate it all the way through, just in one section which I’ll explain next.

Ah…the catch, I only put testimonials on video. I created a PowerPoint presentation with testimonials copied on to each page and then did a voice over and read them. This way the customer could see the testimonial and hear it too.

My conversion rate on this particular page has hovered around 2.5% and I am determined to raise that to above 5% through split testing and trying different techniques. I will let you know how it goes from time to time so stop back in or bookmark or subscribe to my blog.

• Guest Posts – Writing a guest post on a complementary blog is a good way to get your name out there. Everyone is always looking for fresh content. Especially, if it’s good quality and they don’t have to write it. These sites are easy to locate by doing a search or you can simply email your competing site owners and make the offer to write a post. The resource box with a link back to your site at the end is your reward for your hard work. Build those backlinks baby!

• Guru Interviews – Guru Interviews are a good way to expose your site to a lot of people who haven’t been there yet. New venues to share your information such as teleseminars, podcasts or email interviews can drive good targeted traffic from many people at one time.

• Contributors – Rather than having someone just write an occasional guest post, have them listed as a contributor. People love fresh content and a new person can give a new perspective on your niche and add substantial value for your readers. Again, the payoff for them is a link to their site in their resource box.

• Brandable Reports – A secret technique used by top internet marketers is to giveaway top quality information with links to their products. Once you develop products (or find affiliate products you can recommend) that have brandable reports as a marketing tool just give them away. Make sure they include your affiliate link (if it is an affiliate product) making the benefits two-fold. You have content for your readers and the possibility of making money through affiliate sales.

Your Goal – Discover what you market is looking for when they type in a word into Google and give it to them for free! This will drive a massive amount of traffic to your website and you will be well on your way to success.

I was a member of Traffic Geyser for a year or so and simply loved it for pushing out content quickly and easily (once you were all set up -:)).
